请安静

现在让我们数到十二
然后全都保持静止。

在这大地上，至少这一次
让我们不讲任何语言；
让我们停下片刻，

Keeping Quiet

Now we will count to twelve
and we will all keep still.

For once on the face of the earth
let’s not speak in any language,
let’s stop for one second,
and not move our arms so much.

It would be an exotic moment
without rush, without engines,
we would all be together
in a sudden strangeness.

Fishermen in the cold sea
would not harm whales
and the man gathering salt
would look at his hurt hands.

Those who prepare green wars,
wars with gas, wars with fire,
victory with no survivors,
would put on clean clothes
and walk about with their brothers
in the shade, doing nothing.

What I want should not be confused
with total inactivity.
Life is what it is about;
I want no truck with death.

If we were not so single-minded
about keeping our lives moving,
and for once could do nothing,
perhaps a huge silence
might interrupt this sadness
of never understanding ourselves
and of threatening ourselves with death.
Perhaps the earth can teach us
as when everything seems dead
and later proves to be alive.

聂鲁达的这首诗写于上世纪的五十年代，1974年首次收录在英、西双语诗集Extravagaria (奢华）里，英译者为阿拉斯泰尔.里德。

今年夏天世事烦扰，纷争不断，身在海外，经常有老外问这问那，意见不合之处，难免有时也争得面红耳赤。所以我把这首多年前读过的诗拿出来，根据英译版翻译成中文分享给大家，既是我自己对和平的一种愿望，也是借此提醒自己静下心来，重新检阅自己的生活和工作状态。

“人类所有的问题都源自于无法安静地坐在一个房间里” （帕斯卡尔）。生活中有许多忙不完的事，没完没了的项目，会议，饭局，差旅，培训，让人喘不过气来。聂鲁达在这首诗里建议我们暂时停下来：安静下来，以便我们有时间可以反省自己，重新思考生命的意义；安静下来，我们才能听到别人的声音，了解别人的想法，学会与别人和平相处，这世界也许就会少了许多争战，少了许多对环境的破坏。

这首诗不难理解，但是值得反复回味。在这个快节奏的现代社会里，沉默如同濒危物种，所以让我们珍惜沉默吧，试一试从一数到十二，然后安静下来。
